Fat @ (Heb. heleb) denotes the richest part of the animal, or the fattest of the flock, in the account of Abel's sacrifice kjv@Genesis:4:4). It sometimes denotes the best of any production kjv@Genesis:45:18; kjv@Numbers:18:12; kjv@Psalms:81:16 kjv@Psalms:147:47). The fat of sacrifices was to be burned kjv@Leviticus:3:9-11 kjv@Leviticus:4:8 kjv@Leviticus:7:3 ; kjv@8:25; Numbers:18:17. Comp. kjv@Exodus:29:13-22; kjv@Leviticus:3:3-5). It is used figuratively for a dull, stupid state of mind kjv@Psalms:17:10). In kjv@Joel:2:24 the word is equivalent to "vat," a vessel. The hebrew word here thus rendered is elsewhere rendered "wine-fat" and "press-fat" kjv@Haggai:2:16; kjv@Isaiah:63:2).

(1.) A fatted animal for slaughter ( kjv@2Samuel:6:13; kjv@Isaiah:11:6; kjv@Ezekiel:39:18. Comp. kjv@Matthew:22:4, where the word used in the original, sitistos, means literally "corn-fed;" i.e., installed, fat).

(2.) kjv@Psalms:66:15 (Heb. meah, meaning "marrowy," "fat," a species of sheep).

(3.) kjv@1Samuel:15:9 (Heb. mishneh, meaning "the second," and hence probably "cattle of a second quality," or lambs of the second birth, i.e., autmnal lambs, and therfore of less value).
